The Problem That Will Not Go Away

Something Is Not Adding Up
You know how to pray. You have read the promises and underlined them. You have gone forward at the healing service, sat through the counseling, memorized the verses, and confessed the truth out loud with every ounce of faith you could gather.
And still it is there.
The same illness that returns every year. The same crushing pattern in your finances. The same argument in your marriage that never resolves. The same child walking away from God no matter how hard you love them. The same spiritual dryness that descends the moment you begin to grow.
Perhaps you have even said the sentence out loud, quietly, half ashamed of it: My life was going along fine until I gave my heart to Jesus. Then everything that could go wrong did.
That sentence has been spoken by more believers than you would ever guess. It is spoken by pastors. It is spoken by missionaries. It is spoken by faithful people who tithe and serve and study, and who cannot understand why their lives keep breaking in the same place, over and over, like a bone that will not set.
The Explanation Almost No One Considers
Some believers cannot understand why their children turn against them and against God despite everything they have poured into them. Others come to Christ gladly, grow for a while, and then find they can no longer read their Bibles or pray. Interest fades. They drift. Still others battle a lifetime of illnesses and strange accidents that no amount of prayer seems to touch.
Whole families are marked by the same trouble in every generation — mental illness, addiction, suicide, poverty, divorce, abuse — and even those who come to Christ often cannot break the cycle.
These situations have many possible causes. But there is one cause that is almost never mentioned from a pulpit: a curse that has never been broken.
This is not superstition. It is one of the most thoroughly documented subjects in Scripture and one of the most neglected subjects in modern teaching. Blessing and cursing appear side by side throughout the Bible as two real spiritual realities with real effects on real lives.
Why This Matters Now
The purpose of these hundred lessons is not to make you afraid. It is the opposite. It is to help you see a battle you may have been fighting blindfolded.
You cannot win a fight you cannot see. You cannot defend against an enemy whose approach you never noticed. That is precisely why God says His people are destroyed — not for lack of love, not for lack of sincerity, but for lack of knowledge.
The weapons Jesus Christ purchased for you are enormously powerful. They are also useless in a hand that does not know when or how to lift them.
Over the coming lessons you will examine areas of life most believers never examine: what your ancestors did, what hangs on your walls, where your feet have walked, what you accepted from another person's hand, what you said in anger, and what you promised God and never paid.
Some of it will surprise you. Some of it may sting. Approach it the way you would approach a medical examination — not with dread, but with hope that a diagnosis is finally coming for symptoms you have carried too long.

Today's Practice
Take a sheet of paper and write down, honestly, the recurring problems you have not been able to solve. Not the ordinary difficulties of life — the ones that keep coming back.
Then draw a second column. List the same kinds of problems as they appeared in your parents, your grandparents, your brothers and sisters. Illnesses. Addictions. Divorces. Poverty. Rage. Early deaths. Mental torment.
Look for patterns. Do not interpret them yet. Simply record them. You will return to this page many times.
Then pray out loud, unhurried: "Holy Spirit, show me the truth about my life and my family line. Reveal anything hidden. I am willing to see it."
Then wait. He may answer today. He may answer weeks from now. He will answer.
Prayer
Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ. I confess that there are things in my life I have not been able to fix, no matter how sincerely I have prayed. At times I have blamed You. At other times I have blamed myself. Today I am asking for something different. I am asking for knowledge.
Holy Spirit, You are the Spirit of truth. Search me. Show me what I do not know about my own life — sins I have forgotten, doors I have opened, inheritances I never chose. I am not asking out of fear or curiosity. I am asking because I want to be free, and because I want to serve You without hindrance.
Give me courage to look at whatever You reveal, and faith to act on it. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
You cannot break a curse you do not know exists.
